UNDP is the UN’s global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. UNDP is on the ground in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges.
UNDP helps developing countries attract and use aid effectively while encouraging the protection of human rights and the empowerment of women.
UNDP developed a customized collaboration platform based on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 technology for serving as Internet, Extranet, and Intranet purposes. A handful of web parts have been developed to meet UNDP requirements. In the past years, UNDP has found that many business requirements have changed. It has also been agreed that the current system was difficult to maintain due to heavy and deep customization.
UNDP was looking for rebuilding the platform using plain and standard SharePoint setup with customization allowable only if Microsoft best practice is strictly followed and ease of future maintenance is ensured.
Design user interface and look and feel using Microsoft best practice in Master Pages design and implementation.
Revise SharePoint master page so that UNDP corporate website style sheet is employed in an accessible XHTML and CSS-P format with table-less layout. Web accessibility standards are defined by the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2 .
Modify SharePoint master page so that rendered pages are optimized for access speed. The rendered page should be no more than 250 KB, excluding images on the page. Performance should be comparable to the www.unops.org website, which is served by MOSS 2007.
IQSS developed a easy to use and extensible application meeting the ever changing requirements of UNDP. It is now easier to maintain with minimal customization and strictly following Microsoft best practices.
